Dickson Artisan Fudge

Dickson Artisan Fudge was born from a third-generation recipe, dairy farm authenticity, generational entrepreneurship – including dairy and tea companies, and a family ferociously protective of wildlife and natural habitat – some of them leaders in land conservation and wildlife protection organizations.  

My love for wildlife originated with childhood summers at our cabin on Planting Ground Lake in Three Lakes, Wisconsin.  Hugging the swaying top of a pine tree while snuggled between sap-sticky branches.  Breathless at the gentle prickle of a chickadee’s feet on my fingertips while dashing peanuts from my hand.  A mix of fear and excitement kneeling to feed glowing-eyed raccoons graham crackers at dusk. 

Hearing only the canoe paddle plop in the dawn’s breathless lake water as I crossed the loon-nesting bay to pick wild blueberries for pancakes. This would be the same bay my mother relentlessly fought to protect from a new seaplane development, dragging my sister and me from one Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources office to the next. What she taught us as we sweltered in the back seat of the Plymouth station wagon – itching to be back in the lake catching crayfish – we wouldn’t understand for many years to come.  Vivid is the thick storybook of memories of her intensity and fearlessness in confronting those careless and abusive of wildlife.  Sometimes she won, sometimes she didn’t.  But she has not stopped to this day.  

I grew up around food as both sustenance and indulgent celebration.  Huge, gnarly farmhand hands passing platters of warm bread and roasted chicken are my earliest eye-level memories followed by those of friends and family celebrating around enormous, leaves-long tables layered with linens, wine, and platters of hearty food. 

This early life history helped create the mission of Dickson Artisan Fudge – Celebrate Human Life.  Protect Wildlife. 

The spirit of what is behind the Dickson Artisan Fudge mission and vision will go on with my three children – Ben, Brittany, and Braxton – who are all warriors in their own right.  The world is a far better place with them in it.  

Dickson Artisan Fudge is meant for your indulgence in celebration of your lives and with your people.  My greatest hope is that you and the people you share it with have a moment of joy and know that you are giving back to wildlife and habitat.
